Transit insurance is a special type of insurance that protects against damage and loss during transit. Just as you need to protect your belongings from loss whilst they are in your home, you also need to protect them throughout the moving process. Whilst our staff will take the utmost care of your effects, there are circumstances outside of our control that may put your belongings at risk. A representative needs to be at both the uplift and delivery of your belongings. At delivery it is especially important that this person can advise the Dawsons team on the placement of furniture and cartons in the new home.

Dawsons staff will disassemble and reassemble any items where it be required for your relocation, items include beds, trampolines and swing sets.

Dawson is able to provide you with packing materials for your move. Alternatively you can use your own packing materials. You will require clean sturdy cartons, butcher paper, bubble wrap, marking pens and tape. Make sure to keep aside any important documents and items you might need immediately in your new home. Try to pack one room at a time with similar items packed in each box then clearly mark each box with your name the room it will go into and the contents. Place a layer of cushioning (scrunched paper) at the bottom and top of the box. Place heavier items at the bottom of the boxes.

Dawsons can provide storage for any period of time from a week to an indefinite period of time.

Yes, Dawsons can move your pot plants throughout Australia. However, if you are moving interstate you need to check on the Quarantine regulations of your new state, as plants can be prohibited. Plants cannot be relocated overseas.

Yes, Dawson Moving can arrange the transportation of your vehicles to your new destination. For further information, please refer to our Vehicle Relocation service.

The following are considered to be dangerous goods and are not transportable by a removalist: cooking oils, cleaning solvents, aerosol cans, firelighters, pesticides, paint thinners, oil, petrol, methylated spirits, turpentine, weed killers and swimming pool treatments.

Removal Tips

Preparing
  • Regard moving as an opportunity to get rid of belongings you no longer need. Consider making ”donate” and “sell” piles in each room for things you could do without.
  • People have a tendency to keep outdated paperwork for a very long time. Realise that paper is very heavy . Do yourself a favour and get rid of any outdated documents prior to moving..
  • Make sure you have a generous supply of packaging tape, scissors, markers and labels.
  • Defrost your refrigerator in time for moving day.
Moving Out
  • Contact all relevant authorities to notify of your new address.
  • Return all library books, DVD's etc.
  • Arrange transfer of bank accounts, internet, telephone, gas, electricity connections.
  • Fill prescriptions needed the week before and after the move.
  • Service your car, drain the lawnmower.
  • Arrange final readings of gas and electricity meters, remove batteries.
  • Discontinue any delivery services, newspapers, automated payment plans and local memberships. Collect dry cleaning.
  • Leave a note or small gift for new residents.
  • Create a packet for new residents with owner's manuals and warranties for appliances.
